Guangzhou, China
The Canton Fair in Guangzhou is the lung of global trade. If you are an importer, buyer, or entrepreneur, this is where it all happens. But traveling to China for business presents a unique technological challenge: internet censorship.
The Connectivity Challenge: The "Great Firewall"
In China, the internet is not the same as at home.
- Blocked: Google (Gmail, Maps, Drive), Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), YouTube, X (Twitter), Slack...
- Accessible: WeChat, Baidu, AliPay.
If you rely on hotel Wi-Fi or a standard local Chinese SIM card, you will be cut off from your usual work ecosystem.
Technical Analysis: eSIM as a Workaround
This is where the travel eSIM changes everything.
- The Principle: An Alolilo "China" or "Asia" eSIM routes your internet traffic through servers located outside of China (often in Hong Kong or Singapore).
- The Result: For the Chinese network, you are "roaming". This traffic is generally not filtered by the Great Firewall. So you have access to Google, WhatsApp, and Instagram without needing to install a complex VPN.
The Alolilo Advice: Prepare Your Business Trip
- Backup VPN: Even with an eSIM, install a VPN before you leave, just in case.
- WeChat & AliPay: Install these apps and link your bank card. In China, people no longer pay with cash or physical Visa cards, everything is done by mobile QR code. Without data, you can't even buy a bottle of water.
- China Data Plan + VPN included: Our China plans are optimized to bypass restrictions. Take at least 5GB so you don't run out during negotiations.
Do business without barriers. With Alolilo, your office follows you to China.
